ADL Applauds Mayor Hancock and the Colorado High School Athletic Association’s “You Can Play” Initiative

  • February 13, 2014

Since 1913, the Anti-Defamation League has advocated for “justice and fair treatment to all.” We commend Mayor Michael B. Hancock’s championing of the “You Can Play” initiative, becoming the first mayor to openly advocate for the full inclusion of LGBT youth in school sports programs, and we applaud the Colorado High School Athletic Association’s support of the initiative throughout the state.

We all know what it feels like to be on the sidelines, waiting to be picked for a team. We applaud Mayor Hancock’s leadership in stating that “Positive leadership takes place on the field, on the court, in the rink, in the classroom and on stage. It starts with accepting the talent, heart and skill of everyone on your team, including those who might be … gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.”
