Hate Crimes Legislation: ADL Testifies in Wyoming

  • November 20, 2019

ADL Mountain States Regional Director Scott Levin testified in Casper this month before the Wyoming Advisory Committee of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights about hate crimes in Wyoming and across the country.

“Hate crimes are message crimes. It is necessary to provide training to and mandate reporting by law enforcement, and it is past time for Wyoming to adopt a state hate crimes law,” said Levin. “We strongly urge Wyoming to enact a bias-motivated crime law. We look forward to working with the US Commission on Civil Rights to accomplish these recommendations and to improve the response to each and every hate crime in Wyoming and across the country.”

It was a particular honor for ADL to testify alongside Dennis Shepard, father of Matthew, and co-founder with his wife Judy, of the Matthew Shepard Foundation.
