Denver, CO, June 5, 2013 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today strongly condemned the recent, hateful recruitment effort by the Ku Klux Klan in El Paso County and called upon all people to speak out against hate.
According to law enforcement and media reports, the Ku Klux Klan, a racist, anti-Semitic movement with a history of members engaged in criminal activity, posted fliers on mailboxes of residents in a Security – Widefield neighborhood. The fliers contained virulently homophobic, xenophobic and racist messages, and invited members of the public to join the extremist group.
“Polluting a neighborhood with messages of hate affects all of us, not just those groups targeted by the purveyors of hate,” said Scott Levin, ADL Mountain States Regional Director. “It is critical that society respond to those who seek to provoke hostility by sending messages of inclusivity and respect. We are grateful to law enforcement for their quick and decisive action investigating this incident. ADL calls upon the entire Colorado community to speak out strongly against hate.”
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry. For more information about ADL’s work in the Mountain States Region, visit www.adl.org/mountain-states.
