ADL commends Marshall for principled stance

Anti-Defamation League Mountain States Regional Director Scott L. Levin issued the following statement regarding Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall’s decision to kneel during the playing of the national anthem:

The struggle for liberty and justice for all should be a shared value and concern for all Coloradans and Americans even if we disagree with the tactics and strategies to move us forward. The societal norm of disagreeing without being disagreeable seems to have vanished, as is evidenced in the attacks on Brandon Marshall. Certainly, while Marshall has a right to express his beliefs, others have a right to respond with their own beliefs, but all of us should strive for civil discourse. There is no place for the racial slurs, derogatory comments and threats of physical harm that have been hurled against Marshall. We commend Marshall for his courageous stance, positive and hopeful outlook and for his outreach to senior law enforcement personnel in order to meaningfully address issues of racial injustice and police violence in our community.
