The Mountain States Office of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) expressed deep disappointment with the 5-4 vote of the House State, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee yesterday that rejected a bill to establish civil unions in Colorado.

Scott L. Levin, ADL’s Mountain States Regional Director, issued the following statement:

ADL is deeply disappointed by both the Committee vote rejecting the civil unions bill and the process that denied a full hearing and fair floor vote for the proposal.  Committed same-sex couples in Colorado deserve equal access to laws providing legal responsibilities and protections for their families.  A bipartisan majority of state legislators, like the majority of Coloradoans, support civil unions.  It is shameful that the bill was not permitted to go through a fair process to allow a vote by the full House of Representatives.

ADL has long supported the ability of same-sex couples to receive equal treatment under Colorado law.
