ADL celebrates the passage of LGBT anti-discrimination ordinance in Laramie, WY

  • May 15, 2015

In a letter to the Editor  of the Laramie Boomerang newspaper, Mountain States Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Regional Director Scott L. Levin applauded the city council’s passage of an ordinance this week prohibiting the discrimination of the LGBT community in housing, employment and public businesses.

Levin wrote:

Laramie City Council’s decision to pass an ordinance that prohibits discrimination against any person based upon sexual orientation or gender identity represents a critical step forward in building a more just and equitable society. The Council’s action demonstrates that Laramie is a city that values all of its residents. And it serves as a powerful display of the type of positive leadership that is necessary to ensure fairness and equality for all people.

No one should face discrimination in employment, housing, or public accommodations on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. We are heartened by the Laramie City Council’s decision and hope that it will encourage and inspire state lawmakers to pass similar state-wide anti-discrimination legislation to protect all of Wyoming’s residents.
