ADL DEEPLY SADDENED BY MURDER OF THREE MUSLIM STUDENTS IN NORTH CAROLINA

Washington, DC, February 11, 2015 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is deeply saddened by the murder of three Muslim students at a Chapel Hill, North Carolina apartment complex yesterday.

One individual, Craig Stephen Hicks, has been arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder after turning himself in to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office following the shooting.

David C. Friedman, ADL Washington, DC Regional Director, issued the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened by the murder of Deah Shaddy Barakat, Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, and Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha and extend our condolences to their families and friends. We commend the Chapel Hill Police Department for forcefully stating that it is committed to thoroughly investigating all aspects of this case, including the possibility that this was a crime motivated by hate.”
