Asked by ABC World News on January 26, 2014 to comment on the outrageous statements of Tom Perkins, a San Francisco billionaire and venture capitalist, in this weekend’s edition of The Wall Street Journal, Mountain States Regional Director Scott L. Levin offered remarks on the Sunday evening news program.
In his letter to the editor of The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Perkins compared the “demonization of the rich” to “fascist Nazi Germany” and the persecution of German Jews during Kristallnacht. In the clip of the story that appeared on the news, Levin pointed out that analogies to the Holocaust are never appropriate and called on Mr. Perkins to apologize, and Perkins later did so.
According to Levin,
Mr. Perkins’ assertions were outrageous and his analogy absurd. The events of Kristallnacht included the murder of almost 100 Jews, sending 30,000 Jews to concentration camps and the destruction of thousands of Jewish businesses, homes and synagogues. It brought to light for the world the conduct of Nazi Germany and foreshadowed the death of six million Jews and millions of others in the Holocaust. Those events should never be trivialized or distorted.
