Colorado Senate Majority Leader Morgan Carroll was the keynote speaker at a reception to thank the participants of the 2013 Mountain States ADL Summer Associate Research Program. Majority Leader Carroll shared her passions for the law, for championing civil rights and for citizen advocacy. Author of Take Back Your Government: A Citizen’s Guide to Grassroots Change, Carroll discussed her journey from private practice in a mother-daughter law firm to seeking and gaining public office and subsequently rising through the ranks in the Colorado legislature.
ADL is grateful to Mountain States Board Members Dan Calisher and Steve Shapiro, who chaired the Summer Associate Research Program, the goals of which are to provide ADL’s regional and national staff with cutting-edge legal research on civil rights issues and to expose rising attorneys to ADL’s mission and to the importance of pro bono work. The Mountain States Region is one of several ADL offices involved in the annual program. Each year, participating law firms task their summer associates with composing legal memos that speak to questions ADL poses. ADL then uses the research in its work.
In his remarks, ADL Mountain States Regional Director Scott Levin thanked the participating summer associates: “The research you undertook is important to the work that ADL does every day. We at ADL will rely on the memos you prepared as we advocate for justice and fair treatment to all.”
The reception took place on July 17, 2013, at the law offices of Ireland Stapleton Pryor & Pascoe, PC in Denver, CO. ADL thanks the law firm for hosting and providing food, beverage and a beautiful space to gather.
