In response to the crisis in Ferguson, Missouri, the Anti-Defamation League has taken action at both the national and local levels. While working closely with other civil rights groups, community leaders and law enforcement on the ground, ADL has published an op-ed in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, signed a Jewish community statement with dozens of national leaders, and sent a letter to President Obama welcoming his remarks and applauding the Administration’s efforts “to ensure that justice, civil rights and public safety are served.”
In addition, ADL has created Current Events Classroom curriculum materials complete with lesson plans about the death of Michael Brown and the aftermath in Ferguson entitled “WHAT IS HAPPENING IN FERGUSON, MO?” The high school lesson provides an opportunity for students to learn more about the situation in Ferguson, grapple with their thoughts and feelings about the case, analyze the militarization of the police and reflect on activism in order to effect change.
