Anti-Defamation League: YouTube Parody of Governor’s Race Trivializes the Holocaust

  • January 25, 2010

Responding to reports of a viral video parodying the Colorado gubernatorial race with scenes depicting Adolph Hitler, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) decried the invocation of Hitler for political purposes. Bruce H. DeBoskey, ADL Mountain States Regional Director, issued the following statement:

“ADL is disheartened to see Adolph Hitler’s image and persona invoked to make a political statement in the Colorado governor’s race. While some may see humor in the filmmaker’s political point, references and comparisons to Hitler and the Holocaust are becoming all too facile. Comparisons to the Nazis are deeply offensive and only serve to diminish and trivialize the extent of the Nazi regime’s crimes against humanity and the murder of six million ews and millions of others in the Holocaust. We encourage political activists to make statements without trivializing the impact of this genocidal figure.”
