According to an article in today’s Denver Post entitled “Hate Groups Exist Here,” the sentiment behind hate groups that are a part of Colorado’s history is still present in the state today. Asked about the increase in anti-Semitic and other hateful activities and rhetoric, Jeremy Shaver, associate director for the Anti-Defamation League Rocky Mountain States region, says:
We’re seeing a greater number of public events, folks who are more willing to express their extremist beliefs and ideologies in a public forum. In 2015, the Anti-Defamation League recorded 18 reported anti-Semitic incidents, but that number more than doubled in 2016 to 45. This year, more than 30 incidents have been reported thus far.
