A letter to the editor of the Denver Post, written by ADL Mountain States Regional Director Scott Levin, was published in response to John Andrews’ anti-Islam screed at the Western Conservative Summit, held on June 12-13, 2019. Mr. Andrews served as the Colorado Senate President from 2003-2005. Among his many other positions, he was the director of the Centennial Institute (a public policy think tank based at Colorado Christian University) and chairman of its annual Western Conservative Summit.
At the most recent Western Conservative Summit held last month, Andrews asserted that Muslims cannot be patriotic Americans entrusted with full and unconditional religious freedom. “At ADL, we decided that we could not allow such comments to go unchallenged,” said Levin. “As a Jew and member of a minority religion in this country, I felt it important to speak out on this subject because religious freedom should be guaranteed to everyone no matter their faith or lack thereof.”
