On April 26, 2014, nearly 40 educators and pre-service teachers from Colorado and Wyoming attended a full day event, “Teaching the Voices from the Holocaust”, which was hosted by the University of Northern Colorado and co-sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League and Colorado Holocaust Educators. For the first time, this event was a part of Greeley’s week- long Holocaust Memorial Observances.
Jeraldine Kraver, UNC Professor of English in the School of Education, welcomed all participants and mentioned how proud she was to host this event, with hopes and plans that this will be an annual event. Every educator learned about and received Echoes and Reflections—A Multimedia Resource Guide on the Holocaust, developed by ADL, the USC Shoah Foundation, and Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority in Jerusalem, Israel. Sessions presented during the training included “The Holocaust and the Role of Women through the Lens of Literature” and “How to use Testimony from the Camp System,” both presented by Museum Teacher Fellows and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Teacher Fellows.
For those that were not able to attend, another free opportunity for educators to increase their knowledge in Holocaust education will be offered on Sunday August 10, 2014 at the Mizel Museum in Denver, CO. Ephraim Kay, Director of International Seminars at The International School of Holocaust Studies at Yad Vashem will be in Denver!
