ADL Hosts 2016 Legislative Session Preview

  • December 3, 2015

The Anti-Defamation League Mountain States Region recently held a preview of the upcoming Colorado Legislative Session, which begins on January 13, 2016. We were pleased to be joined by two guest speakers:  Senate Minority Leader Lucia Guzman and House Majority Leader Crisanta Duran. The event also included a training session for ADL volunteers who will serve as legislative liaisons in the coming year.

More than 20 individuals gathered on December 2 to learn more about the issues that Colorado legislators will likely consider in the upcoming session. Guzman and Duran provided an overview of some of the issues, including  religious exemptions that would permit discrimination in public accommodations, women’s reproductive health care, reforms in police-community relations, balancing the budget and limiting budget cuts. Participants also received training on how to work with their state legislators, testify in a committee hearing and advocate on issues of importance to ADL.
