The Mountain States Region of the Anti-Defamation League has joined a broad coalition of organizations to oppose Amendment 62, the so-called “Personhood Amendment,” which would define a fertilized human egg as a person.

Amendment 62 is sponsored by Personhood Colorado, the same group that put Amendment 48 on the ballot in 2008.  ADL opposed the 2008 amendment as well; that Amendment was defeated by a wide margin.

Amendment 62 is an extreme measure that would criminalize all abortions, even in cases of rape or incest or when the life of a mother is at risk. ADL supports the right of every woman to make a decision whether to have an abortion under the guidelines established by the U.S. Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade.
