On November 14, 175 young leaders, community members and ADL Regional Board members gathered for “American Dreamin’.” The event, co-sponsored by ADL Outreach Network and the Civil Rights Committee offered this diverse group a chance to come together for an evening centered on both national and local immigration reform.
Keynote speaker Congressman Jared Polis provided background on immigration issues and offered his perspective as a U.S. Representative and as founder of the New American School, a school for recent immigrants in Boulder County. He outlined the current administration’s focus on immigration and upcoming legislation aimed at comprehensive immigration reform. Congressman Polis stressed the importance of creating pathways to citizenship that will create long term benefits for families and the U.S. economy.
Other speakers provided a call to action, offering details of continued efforts to introduce a bill in Colorado’s legislature that will provide in-state tuition for undocumented children who have grown up and been educated in Colorado. Attendees signed up to help achieve reform in Colorado and gathered after the program to enjoy drinks, dessert and entertainment from That Eighties Band.
The event was generously sponsored by the Brodie Family Foundation.
