Join the ADL Mountain States Region on Thursday, August 27, 2020 to participate in an exciting virtual fundraiser in honor of Sheldon (Shelly) Steinhauser, a community trailblazer who has devoted his life to championing diversity and civil rights for all.
August will mark Shelly’s 90th birthday. Shelly is a true embodiment of ADL’s mission and values, having served as a former director of the ADL Mountain States Region. Many of Shelly’s accomplishments are in fact rooted in the story of civil rights: he participated in the march from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery with Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965, and subsequently worked to pass the Colorado Fair Housing Act of 1959, making Colorado the first state to pass fair housing laws forbidding racial or religious discrimination.
As Shelly celebrates this extraordinary milestone birthday, his legacy not only reminds us of what one person can achieve, but also inspires us to look within and ask ourselves: If Not Now, When? We are the ones we’ve been waiting for, and we are the ones that must continue the fight in combating hatred and bigotry in all forms. There is no better time than the present to achieve equality and secure justice for all.
Celebrate Shelly and our hopes for the future by making a donation to ADL on Thursday, August 27. Stay tuned for more information to come about this special celebration in the weeks ahead.
