The ADL Mountain States Region would like to thank everyone who donated to the “If Not Now, When?” 90-hour fundraiser honoring ADL Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree, Sheldon (Shelly) Steinhauser. Thanks to your generosity we were able to raise $202,000 to support programs that confront antisemitism, anti-bias, extremism and other forms of hate in Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming. 

Shelly has created a legacy as a civil rights activist by walking the walk. Throughout his life and varied career, Shelly has dreamed of a better world for all and has been prepared to do something about it. Fifty-five years ago, he linked arms with other civil rights activists from all corners of the nation. To this day, Shelly has demonstrated during the most tumultuous times that the fight for civil rights belongs to us all. 

Last month, we challenged the community to walk the walk, just like Shelly. Our supporters answered the call and helped us exceeded our original goal of a $90,000 matched donation. In a year filled with uncertainty and doubt, thanks to all who donated, we exceeded our goal by over $20,000.

“It has been a true honor for me and our region to celebrate Shelly Steinhauser, a true leader in civil rights advocacy who has committed his life to fighting for the greater good on behalf of all people,” said Scott Levin, ADL Mountain States Regional Director. “The success of the fundraiser demonstrates the commitment that our community has in fighting hate for good.”  

A long road lies ahead before we reach fair treatment and justice for all, but as we saw from the success and energy of this event, a better world is possible when we come together.
