ADL Empowers Jewish Institutions and Law Enforcement in Advance of Jewish High Holidays

  • August 26, 2013

The Mountain States Region of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has reached out to Jewish institutions and law enforcement agencies to work together to ensure a safe and secure Jewish High Holiday season.

On August 21, ADL partnered with Captain J.P. Burt, Director of the Colorado Information Analysis Center (CIAC), the state law enforcement fusion center, to host a High Holiday Security Webinar. Representatives from several Jewish institutions participated in the session, which included presentations on High Holiday security best practices for Jewish institutions and information about what to consider when creating, implementing and practicing security plans.

On August 23, ADL sent letters to the heads of every police department, sheriff’s office and other law enforcement entities that have Jewish institutions in their jurisdictions. This annual mailing provides information to law enforcement about when the Jewish High Holidays will take place and requests that law enforcement take extra measures to ensure the safety and security of Jews and their places of worship. The mailing also includes a detailed list of all of the Jewish institution in each jurisdiction.

In advance of and throughout the High Holiday season, ADL experts  will be visiting Jewish institutions throughout the region to conduct security seminars that equip staff, lay leaders and congregants with pertinent and valuable knowledge about steps that they can consider taking to further their personal and community’s safety.

If you would like to find out more about ADL’s Jewish Institutional Security offerings or arrange a security seminar for your institution, please contact this office at 303-830-7177 or visit www.adl.org/security.
