ADL Mountain States Summer Associate Research Program Celebrates the Start of its Eleventh Year

  • June 12, 2018

Judge Allison Eid of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit Court was the keynote speaker at the opening reception on June 7 to kick off the 2018 Mountain States Anti-Defamation League Summer Associate Research Program. Judge Eid shared her personal story and insights into her remarkable judicial career with the three dozen attorneys and summer associates in attendance.

The reception took place at the law offices of Greenberg Traurig in Denver, CO. ADL thanks the law firm for hosting and for providing refreshments and a beautiful space to gather. ADL is grateful to Mountain States Board Members Alan Frosh and Andrew Rubin who serve as chairs of the Summer Associate Research Program. Participants in the program provide ADL’s regional and national staff with legal research on cutting-edge civil rights issues. The rising attorneys are exposed to ADL’s mission and to the importance of pro bono work. The Mountain States Region is one of several ADL offices throughout the country involved in the annual program.

In his remarks, immediate past ADL Mountain States Board Chair Jim Kurtz-Phelan thanked the participating summer associates: “The research you are undertaking this summer is critical to the work that ADL does every day. ADL will rely on the memos you prepare as it advocates for justice and fair treatment to all.”

2018 marks the 11th year for the ADL Summer Associate Research Program in Denver. Twenty-four summer associates from nine prominent law firms are participating in this year’s program.  Under the direction of a supervising attorney, each summer associate is researching an assigned topic and will provide a memorandum to ADL.  Topics being researched this summer include hate speech on social media, religious arbitration clauses, sanctuary cities and more.

ADL appreciates the participation of the following law firms in this year’s program:

  • Ballard Spahr
  • Brownstein Hyatt Farber & Schreck LLP
