ADL Offers Resources to Counter Misinformation on “Israeli Apartheid Month”

  • March 4, 2011

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has experts and resources available on Israeli Apartheid Month, an anti-Israel campaign scheduled to take place at a series of events in Denver and Boulder from March 6 to March 25, 2011.

Israeli Apartheid Month events feature extreme anti-Israel rhetoric, including accusations that Israel is a racist “apartheid state,” calls for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaigns against the Jewish State, and allegations that Israel is committing war crimes and genocide against the Palestinian people.  In previous years, events in other cities have featured offensive Holocaust analogies, expressions of support for Hamas and other messages dedicated to delegitimizing and demonizing the Jewish state.

ADL has available resources for people who may encounter anti-Israel protests or events, and for those that wish to learn more about the inappropriate use of the term ‘apartheid’ when referring to Israel:

  • About Israeli Apartheid Week: Includes updated background and information on past events and countering the apartheid analogy.
  • Fighting Back: A Handbook for Responding to Anti-Israel Rallies on Campuses: Offers strategic responses to addressing demonstrations by looking at issues of Free Speech.
  • Israel: A Guide for Activists: Provides key information on Israel, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and answers to misstatements about the conflict.
  • Pro-Israel Posters: “Only in Israel”: Highlighting the rights and freedoms in Israeli society.

ADL has also launched a new Facebook page, “Israel is NOT an Apartheid State,” a resource for updated information and a forum for students and others to express their views.
