ADL SPRING EVENTS POSTPONED

With the continued spread of COVID-19, evolving guidelines for large community gatherings and out of respect for our community’s health and safety, ADL has made the difficult decision to postpone the 39th Annual Governor’s Holocaust Remembrance Program (originally scheduled for Thursday, April 23) and to cancel the No Place for Hate® Celebration Breakfast (originally scheduled for Friday, May 1).  We appreciate your understanding in this unique time and look forward to updating you with further details in the coming months. ADL congratulates this year’s participating No Place for Hate schools, students, educators and families that have spent all year working diligently to create cultures and climates of respect and inclusion across the Mountain States Region.

Although we will not be together in person, look for some exciting announcements and information on our website, in our Mountain States Messenger e-newsletter and in our Dateline print newsletter in the coming weeks. We look forward to sharing the winning essays from ADL’s A Tribute to Moral Courage Student Essay Contest, the winning artwork from the No Place for Hate Student Art Contest and a special video message from several of our treasured Colorado Holocaust Survivors on our website: https://mountainstates.adl.org. You are also encouraged to stay connected with us on Facebook and Twitter .

In addition, here are some things you can do specifically to support Holocaust education and awareness:

  1. Encourage your state legislators to support House bill 1336 – Holocaust and Genocide Studies in Public Schools. ADL has worked with an extensive network of coalition partners to introduce the bill, which will promote Holocaust and genocide education and awareness in Colorado schools. The bill comes at a critical time as fewer Holocaust survivors are able to share their first-person accounts and as Americans’ knowledge of the Holocaust decreases.
  2. Echoes and Reflections, a partnership of ADL, the USC Shoah Foundation and Yad Vashem, offers lesson plans for students, webinars for teachers, and a host of other materials for those involved with Holocaust education.
  3. Visit the US Holocaust Memorial Museum website for suggestions as to how to observe Days of Remembrance, this year from April 19-26. Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, is on April 21, 2020.

Thank you for your understanding and for your support of the ADL Mountain States Region.
